Birthstone ring in 14kt with 5x5mm synthetic heart shaped birthstone. A 5x5mm is equal to a 1/2 carat if it were a diamond. It is a high five pronged setting with a point guard for the bottom of the heart. The Claddagh sits flush on the finger, is not raised or scooped out in the back. It is open under the crown between the top of the birthstone heart. You are seeing the back of the band and stone reflection in the picture. It is equally as nice in 14kt white gold. Some may even chose to set a real emerald or diamond and use it for an engagement ring.
